Smartwatches are now a pretty common thing and every 3 out of 5 individuals can be found wearing a smartwatch today. It comes with the latest technology and makes our life easy and healthy. Today, smartwatches can do more than just what the android and ios devices can.
In this article, I will discuss the Samsung Galaxy Gear S2 that was first introduced in 2014. The watch has its own Operating System by Samsung Tizen with a large 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display.
Let’s talk about Samsung GEAR S2 hacks that most of you may not know.
Samsung Gear S2 hacks
1. Music Control
If you love music and you can’t afford a smartwatch that doesn’t have a music controlling feature in it, Gear S2 smartwatch is just made for you. You can easily control your phone Music app with this smartwatch.
Music system control includes the next song, previous song, and volume controlling feature. You can also press the “play” or “stop” button from the watch itself.
To apply this setting, go to the menu, scroll down until to find the music player app.
While playing music, you will get a playing option on the top of your watch. By taping, you will get back to the music player app. See the picture below.
2. Changes The Straps
This feature can actually save your battery life (and, of course, your money.) It’s a pretty amazing hack on Samsung GEAR S2. Yes, you can change its straps.
It’s like you are changing smartwatch clothes. Most people may not know that Gear S2 has two versions, Gear S2 & Gear 2 Classic. The good news is that you can swap both the straps.

You can also search on Google, “Samsung Gear S2 Straps.” You will find many websites that provide cool straps. Also, you need a stainless steel band adapter if you want to change the strap.

3. Flight Mode
If your Gear S2 Smartwatch is updated with the latest software, then you will see the flight mode option on your smartwatch.
Now, this feature will help you to block all your calls, messages, wifi, Bluetooth and other things that run on the internet like GPS.
And if you are on a flight, enabling flight mode will save the battery.
Note: Wifi option is still available in the flight mode
To enable this option, go to the menu and scroll down to the notification panel and select airplane mode, check the icon and confirm.
4. Heart Rate Monitoring
Samsung Gear S2 has a different kind of heart rate monitoring sensor feature which is located on the back of the watch. With this feature, you can track before, after and during records.
You can see more information on the Samsung app.
Open the heart rate monitor widget. Tap on the start. It will start tracking your heart rate. You can also use the Samsung app to do the same thing.
Note: If you are facing any trouble while tracking your heart or the watch showing you the wrong measures, try cleaning your sensor which is on the back of the watch.
Once it’s completed, the measurement rotates your bezel to see the complete information.
Your results will save on the Samsung app. You can view it by going to the history option.
The cool thing here is that you can install different types of heart watch faces display as you see in the below picture.
5. Find Your Smartwatch
Samsung phones, tablets, smartwatches and even Samsung earbuds have “Find My Device” option.
This feature comes with the two options.
When you lost your phone at home or somewhere in the reachable zone. If your watch is connected to the phone via Bluetooth, then open the app, go to the “Find My Device” option or wearable option then click on start. Hurray!!! Your smartwatch will start vibrating.
Now if you lost your watch somewhere out of the Bluetooth range, then you can track your watch’s last location. Tap on the “show on the map” option. If you are still unable to reach the location, you will find another option- “set a lock” or a reactivation lock. Reset your watch.
Note: Make sure you have the Galaxy official wearable app in your phone to use this feature.
6. S Health App
Samsung S Health app is a great way to stay or get in shape. With this feature, you can track your daily calories consumption, heart rate monitoring, accelerometer, etc.
What makes this watch more convenient is that it has water and caffeine tracking features. This feature can keep yourself hydrated and take control of your caffeine level.
Setting up a Samsung app is easier than you thought. Go to the menu and tap on “Samsung S Health app.” Many options will come up.

7. Quick App Launch
You can set and open your desired app by double-pressing the menu button.
To get use this feature, first go to the menu screen, then
Apps > Samsung Gear > Setting > Double
And, press the Home key.
Select the application you want to launch by double pressing on your Gear S2.
8. Power Saving Mode
Gear S2 has a power-saving mode feature that increases your battery life.
To enable this feature, go to
swipe Left>> Setting > Power saving
Tap on the tick icon to enable.
What changes the watch will have when you put your smartwatch on power-saving mode?
- The colourful display will turn in a grey tone.
- Disables wifi network and CPU performance.
- Disables all the functions except call, notification and messages.
9. Wake-Up Gesture
Once your Gear S2 goes to sleep, you can activate it by pressing the home button.
Now, in Gear S2, you may face issues with wake up gestures. It is common on this watch.

10. Watch Faces
Gear has a different type of watches faces option that you would really love.
To change them, you have to touch and hold the screen of Gear S2. Watch faces will pop up. Rotate the bezel for different watch faces.
Once you like any, tap that face.
Now you can also download some watch faces from the official app.
The in-home list under the apps section, you will see a Samsung gear app option.
Tap on that and then select the category. Select watch faces. Select the watch face to download.

11. Take a Screenshot of Your Gear S2
To Take the screenshot of your Gear, you need to swipe left and press the home button at the same time. The screenshot will save at your wear 2 galleries.
To view your screenshot, press the home button and tap gallery. All your taken screenshots will be there.
You can also transfer it to your Phone By doing the below steps
- Go to the gallery and select the image or screenshot you want to send.
- Hold the image until the tick pop comes.
- Rotate the bezel to send multiple.
- Click on the three dots on the right side.
- Touch Send to phone.
12. Security Lock
Having a security system is a must in every smartwatch. Otherwise, anyone can access your personal data. Gear S2 comes with a security lock system feature.
To enable it,
- Go to the settings
- Then screen lock
- Then pin
- Enter your pin and confirm it
13. Water Lock Mode
Gear S2 also has a water lock mode. Wherever you go fishing, swimming or you are just taking a bath, it’s better to activate this feature to prevent the watch from any accidental touches.
By turning it on, it will lock touchscreen, wake up gesture and just show you the home screen.
How to turn it on?
- Go to the menu
- Tap the water lock option
- Click on the tick
14. Water Ejection Mode
This one is really interesting.
If you are facing any issue after your swimming exercise or any water activity you do while wearing your Gear, it;s time to troubleshooting with water ejection mode
To enable this feature, you first have to shake your smartwatch to remove the water.
Go to the menu button and bezel to select the setting to navigate to the water eject option. After this process, tap on play sound for the results.

Note: Whenever you watch get wet, just clean it with a soft and clean cloth first.
15. Bluetooth Headset Connectivity
Samsung Gear S2 has a Bluetooth handsets connectivity feature which allows you to content your device with your headphones or earphones.
To connect with your headphones:
Go to settings > Connections > Bluetooth > Tap ON > Tap to connect with available device >
Note: Make sure your device is discoverable and ready to connect.

16. Do Not Disturb
If you’re busy in a meeting or doing any other busy activity, you can turn on the “Do Not Disturb” mode. Your watch will stop vibrating on any upcoming notification and screen will turn off, except alarms.
To turn on this feature on the status panel, Click on the – “Icon.”
Do not disturb option will display at the top of the screen.
17. Here Maps
Gear S2 has Here maps app which is used to navigate and send location.
