Smartwatches are everywhere, and they’re going to stay here. The craze amongst the traditional wristwatch enthusiasts is still mixed.

Many of you own both traditional watches and smartwatches, while some still give up anything connected on their wrist. What’s not up for debate is that smartwatches have completely changed the landscape for both wearable technology and watches.

Smartwatches offer more features than a traditional watch.

The health benefits of wearing a smartwatch are huge. I would be in much better shape. I can eat better and healthier. I would sleep better as well. My blood pressure will remain stable so will my cholesterol.

The smartwatch will help in all that and it will be the catalyst for a positive lifestyle change also. For this purpose and for someone in the right frame of mind, such an electronic device is definitely beneficial and a must-have.

Now you should know that I’m also wearing a regular watch as well and if someone would offer a viable solution for a smart strap or bracelet, or buckle or something similar, performing the exact same health functions/monitoring, I would probably stop wearing the traditional watches for the sake of simplicity.

Even though it is not altogether bad to have the time/date and some notifications going on and perhaps traditional watches and other manufacturers were right to include them as they are inexpensive to add on to any design and sometimes, might come in handy, those things are not the reason I’m wearing it all the time.

I do love watches and also need to improve my health & fitness. If any device would be available to offer similar health monitoring and mentoring features, I would ditch the traditional watches.

In this blog post, I will be discussing the advantages of a smartwatch that you would love. So without any further ado, let us dive into it.

1. Health and Fitness Features

Smartwatches are also known as good fitness trackers. Many smartwatches have fitness tracking as a core feature. It will help you keep up with your fitness goals. So if you are ever thinking of taking a fitness tracker, you can replace it with a good smartwatch.

Here are some following features regarding health and fitness.

  • Count Steps:

Smartwatches are useful and versatile. It is useful in counting your steps while walking or running. Smartwatches are well suited for all fitness lovers. Sometimes, some smartwatches miss the counting steps that are irrelevant for the non-athletes users and it is always better than counting steps in mind. In general, users want to have some guidelines for how much they should be moving and assessing their fitness level.

The HR sensor in some smartwatches is medical grade and very accurate.

What I am trying to say is there is no cheaper alternative to the things a smartwatch can do currently.  However, fitness tracking is really helpful and fun.

  • Blood Pressure:

Blood Pressure measurement is an entirely new feature for smartwatches and many companies have recently introduced this new feature into the smartwatches. It was first introduced on the Omron HeartGuide Smartwatch in the mid-week of January 2019 and received FDA clearance for its Oscillometric blood pressure feature.

  • Heart Rate:

Most smartwatches, today, often come with heart rate monitors that can measure the individual’s heart rate from the wrist. Measuring your heart rate comes with many benefits. It allows you to track your heart rate during exercises allowing you to keep in a zone that’s increasing your fitness level.

Another benefit is that heart rate measurement connected to Artificial Intelligence might be able to accurately detect specific types of abnormal heart rhythms.

  • Sleep Hours and Quality

This is the most included feature in smart watches nowadays.

If we call it a smartwatch, it should have the feature of tracking our sleeping hours and the quality of our sleep.

This feature is possible with integrated Heart Rate, Gyro, and Accelerometer monitors on the smartwatch. Different manufacturers use different algorithms for tracking your sleep time and the quality of it with varying degrees of success.

  • Calories:

According to the modern world, a calorie-counting feature is a must in a smartwatch. Burnt calories estimation is quite common on smartwatches and it’s calculated based on your activity like steps and logged activity like running and the measurements during those activities.

  • ECG:

ECG is also known as an electrocardiogram. This is something new seen in the smartwatches and this feature is beginning to be available on some certain smartwatches such as the Apple Watch Series 4

This feature delivers more precise heart rate measurements and gives more data for detecting incoming heart-related issues.

2. Music Playing Feature

Are you a music lover?

Smartwatches can offer you great benefits. If you need a phone-free experience when going for a workout or outdoor activities, the smartwatch can be your great partner.

You can walk around town listening to music on the phone in your pocket. Simply hit next on your smartwatch if you want to play your favorite playlist on Spotify. You can also pause, adjust the volume or line-up the next track. It sounds immaterial, but it really does make listening to music easier.

Also, you can either control your smartphone’s music player and use their smartwatch as a remote or pair the smartwatch with Bluetooth headset and listen to music from the smartwatch through a headphone.

3. Notification Feature

Want every notification to reach your wrist directly from your smartphone?

Yeah, who doesn’t want this feature?

I know everybody loves to see Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, SnapChat or other social notifications on their wrist. Some watches will simply show you messages and social media activity, but others will allow you to interact with the application too.

I don’t suggest you use this as your primary method to interact socially. But this can be used when you are out somewhere for running or something else.

This is really awesome and that is why I love smartwatches.

In an important meeting, you could consider wearing a smartwatch might be cheating, however it is not and it works fine. Your smartphone will naturally send you notices of the messages and calls you get on your telephone. Rather than getting your telephone, you simply look at your wrist.

Getting notices without pulling out your phone is one of the fundamental advantages of a smartwatch. It’s likewise helpful when you’re anticipating a significant call at work. Leave your telephone on quiet so it won’t divert you.

However, you can see your watch as long as you want, you’ll never miss the important stuff.

Different notices are similarly useful. Schedule updates, office gatherings, date evenings, and other significant updates show on smartwatch faces. In case, you’re somebody who is going around throughout the day, continually checking an organizer or electronic schedule to remain on target, this would definitely be helpful.

4. Calling Features

With the smartwatches, you can make or receive phone calls. But there are two ways of doing it.

Either you can use the smartwatch as a remote to answer a call on your smartphone or make a call by asking Siri to make a call on your smartphone or the second level of doing this is on a cellular smartwatch that actually comes with a network connection and microphone and speaker to make a call without your smartphone.

Various smartwatches handle answering calls differently.  This is very useful if you’re exercising or in a setting where carrying a phone is a little bit awkward. Also, some watches come with voice support.

For example, some allow users to accept and decline calls on the watch but activates the phone’s speaker and microphone for the conversation. This is helpful when walking around with headphones on, or while driving, when your smartphone isn’t easily accessible.

Others allow users to answer and carry out conversations directly from the watch. This may make you feel not good and it’s not the ideal way to answer every call, but it does come in useful for quick conversations when you can’t get to your mobile.

5. Battery Life Feature

Having a smartphone so why to have a smartwatch?

This question must arise in your mind. But let me tell you, you can’t even compare your smartphone with a smartwatch. Get rid of that thought from your mind since some smartwatches have such long-lasting batteries that a phone can’t just compete with.

This factor is convenient especially if you’re on a long trip and must save some battery life for emergencies. Some smartwatches can last for up to ten days (and even more) with just a single full charge.

6. Constantly Connected Feature

With a smartwatch you are constantly connected while doing other activities. When you are running, cycling, swimming or any other form of exercise, you might want to peek into your messages, calls or notifications.

Sometimes it is not possible for you to keep a phone with you in those activities, and it’s just awkward and annoying when you do anyway. Here is where a smartwatch becomes really useful.

If you’ve got a smartwatch on your wrist, you don’t need to bring your smartphone out from your pocket because with smartwatches, you can now reply to messages or even receive calls while you’re on the go.

6. Find Missing Stuff Feature

Have you ever lost your phone?

Just press a specific button on your smartwatch, and you’ll be able to locate your missing phone in seconds.

Yes, it is absolutely right. Now you can do it in a few seconds.

I know, missing keys or phones is a frustrating experience. It usually seems to happen before some critical occasion that we can’t get late for.

Gladly, smartwatches can solve this issue since most things today can be integrated with a “Find Phone” feature. You can link your phone or any smart device with it, and you’ll be able to ring it through your watch whenever you wish.

7. Customization Feature

Bored with wearing the same watch everyday?

If you are able to change your smart watch’s looks and display every single day, it is going to be quite enjoyable and fun. Isn’t it?

During weekends, you can just put a colored band or the style you like on your wrist. Besides, you can wear a more professional customized smartwatch on Monday morning office meetings.

8. Travel Buddy

A smartwatch could be your travel buddy. While traveling you can enjoy the features of the smartwatch. For example, some smartwatches are able to deliver different vibrations to your wrist to tell you if you should turn right or left when following directions. Instead of constantly looking at a smartphone.

For example, you are able to follow an invisible guide that informs you where to go. Look up and take in the scenery instead of staring at a map.

If you are traveling to the airport you can show your boarding pass directly from your wrist. You can use your smartwatch at any time you need it. It would be very helpful to you.

9. Entertainment On Your Wrist

Entertainment is something that you need to lift up your mood. Suppose, if you are walking and all of a sudden you want to watch a YouTube video that your friend keeps talking about. You are just one or two clicks away from playing YouTube on your watch.

On your smartwatch, you can watch videos and play music on the go. It’s never going to replace the big screen quality of your phone but for those quick moments, it’s unbeatable for convenience.

Smartwatches is all about entertainment. It will provide you with a different experience. You will surely enjoy a smartwatch.

10. Time related features

Many people prefer wearing a watch. The watch which tells time, this one’s kind of obvious. It is a watch afterall. From my point of view watching time, weekdays, and dates is more convenient on a smartwatch rather than a smartphone.

(Wait, I’m not against smartphones, but I am trying to tell you how smartwatches can ease your life.)

Many smartwatches have a Stopwatch. This is similar compared to most smartphone clocks stopwatches but just to be used without the smartphone.

I guess it kind of depends on the situation. Would I prefer using the stopwatch on my phone or smartwatch?

Obviously If I’m moving or going somewhere, I do prefer the stopwatch on my wrist.

The purpose of a smartwatch is either functional or it’s because it’s fashionable. A good watch looks great on someone’s wrist. But nowadays, watches are becoming less and less popular due to the advent of the smartphone.

Who needs to buy a watch when their phone tells the time, has a calendar, and has an alarm? It’s a valid point and one that explains decreasing watch sales in the last few years.

But, smartwatches buck this trend as they offer something a little different. They offer all these basic watch features but they also do things that smartphones cannot.

11. Navigation

And here comes the navigation part. Getting around an unknown city is much easier with a smartwatch. Directions are directly sent to your wrist, telling you from where and when to turn.

It is much easier to see direction from your wrist while you are driving rather than to take out your phone and see the navigation.

Walking around while following directions on your mobile is quite hard. This is another major benefit of wearable technologies.

Of course, the main argument against smartwatches is that they simply do everything a smartphone can, which is true, but they’re not there to replace your phone. They’re there to complement it or help you out, and make your life a little easier. If you know these reasons and want to buy a smartwatch. Here’s a guide

12. App Features

There are several apps supporting smartwatches from Apple, Samsung, LG, and others. The app stores of both Google and Apple have apps that offer new and improved features.

However, the range is still limited, which limits the full potential of smartwatches.

13. Cellular Connectivity

Some of the smartwatches already have their own independent cellular connectivity as they support a SIM card of their own but the support is still missing from many models.

This will help end smartwatch’s dependence on smartphones as well as make the apps function more independently. Though making calls from a smartwatch is not always the best thing, the SIM card support can be used only for data connectivity.

14. Infrared Sensors

Though every smartwatch user may not have this feature on top of their wishlist, infrared sensors in smartwatches can surely be a handy feature for many users. With this, users can also use their devices as TV remotes and more if not anything else.

In this case, you won’t have to always search for your TV or AC remote as it will be right there on your wrists. This along with better design, more apps, longer battery life, cellular connectivity and the usual features could make a great smartwatch.

15. Some Smart Features

  • Reminder:

The reminder is one of the smart features in the smartwatches. This thing can be done by just using the virtual assistant that is “Siri” on your Apple Watch. This feature can sync across devices.

  •  Show Incoming Calls:

When your smartphone is linked with your smartwatch, you will be able get your calls on your smartwatch. You can also answer your calls via your smartwatch.

  • Alarm Clock:

Some smartwatches like the Apple and Samsung come with alarms separated from the phone so you can choose to set the alarm on the watch instead of the phone and the built-in speakers and vibration on the watch will wake you up.

Many smartwatches don’t have built-in speakers so you are relying only on the vibration. Usually, the vibration isn’t strong enough to wake you up but it’s handy. If I want to set an alarm during the day to remind me or I need to leave somewhere, I use my smartwatch.

  • Security:

Ever found yourself in a rough area at night and too afraid to get your smartphone out? Luckily a smartwatch is a lot more discreet. You can easily call, messages, etc through your smartwatch. No need to get your phone out of your pocket.

Are Smartwatches Worth It?

If you’ve never used a watch like this before, I bet you’ll definitely enjoy it.  From my experience, what I can say is, if you are a fan of mobility and ease of use, there is nothing better than a smartwatch to keep you “connected”.

If you are sold with the advantages, I’d advise you to check which smartwatch is right for you. The best is not always the perfect fit for everyone. Rather than that, identify your OS (operating system), check the specifications, and choose your one. You will surely love the features of the smartwatches and the benefits it offers.

Guide On Smartwatches

Although smartwatches can come with similar functions such as GPS tracking and delivering notifications to your wrist. They also vary in style and more specific attributes such as playing music and keeping track of your health.

If you are a beginner and want to make sure you purchase the right smartwatch for your lifestyle then here are some points from which you would know what you should keep in mind.

  • Device Compatibility:

Initially, most smartwatches were built to be companions to your phone. Before you purchase a smartwatch, the first thing you should check, if it is compatible with your phone.

For example, for people who are looking to buy an Apple smartwatch, it will only be able to pair with your iPhone.

There are also certain smartwatches such as the Fitbit Versa that have extra functions for Android users which are quick replies to incoming text messages. If you are worried about the compatibility of your phone to a smartwatch, you should check a variety of brands whose smartwatches connect to both Android and IOS users such as Garmin, Polar, Kronaby, and Fitbit.

Many watches have connectivity issues when paired with an iPhone. You won’t get the same functionality as when paired with the Android device. This is due to some of Apple’s restrictions on third parties. Third-party watchmakers and platforms do not get a search for things like replying messages etc.

  • Display:

When it comes to displaying, it should be sharp and vibrant. In the bright daylight, some smartwatches are not quite great. The customer suffers in the bright daylight. Although some help might be necessary in particularly bright conditions.

Smartwatches come in a variety of forms and surprisingly, not all smartwatches have a color display. Some smartwatches which have Bluetooth and phone companion functions, outside looks like a normal timekeeping watch but has functions such as find my phone and a perpetual calendar.

Ultimately one of the first decisions you need to make is do you want a touchscreen with the colour display or a watch that looks traditional but does so much more?

One thing to bear in mind is that although a touchscreen color display seems like the right choice, it does tend to use more battery than watches without this display.

  • Fitness:

According to a fitness point of view, smartwatches play an essential role but not all smartwatches. Not every smartwatch has a feature for fitness however if you already have a fitness regime or are looking to start one in the future having a fitness smartwatch can be very beneficial to your lifestyle.

Fitness watches can come with music play capabilities and can also come with a heart-rate monitor and pedometer for those that want to count their steps and keep a tab on their health.

Fitness smartwatches have the capability to track a variety of different sports which will suit a range of lifestyles so definitely a feature that should be considered before purchasing your first smartwatch.

  • Payments:

Smartwatches are also used to make payments. Once you are done with the setting of attaching your watch to your Android smartphone or iPhone you are ready to do payments.

If you are a convenient shopper, you probably don’t like messing around with your card or cash on the go.

Now smartwatches, just like phones, have the capability to make payments, Apple watches don’t even need to have an iPhone near or present. Watches that we stock that have this function are very rare.

Kronaby is one of them. They provide a number of different styles and designs of watches that have the option of adding a Contactless Payment Strap which allows Bpay via Barclaycard.

  • Budget:

The last point on my list of recommendations is of course your budget, which is entirely up to you and your circumstances. There are several watches present in the market from low budget to high budget.

There are several different watch brands out there, some I have named, and some you already know, however, the more the budget of your watch, the more functions and capabilities it will have.

Check your budget and then get the best smartwatches online so that you can decide whether it is a good choice for you or not.

Hopefully, from all these points you would come to know and have a better idea which suits you and your fashion within your budget. So, all the above were the advantages of a smartwatch and I am sure you have made up your mind to buy the one for you.

Make sure you comment down below which smartwatch you have decided to buy. And, if you have any doubt, ask me in the comment section.
