Pro 1—Bright Screen

OLED Display

Fossil Q Explorist Gen 3 has an OLED display for apps and other functions of the smartwatch. An organic light emitting diode (OLED) is known to be good for your eyes.

The watch is clear, sharp and pretty light in all lighting conditions.

Pro 2—Stylish Design And Quality Build

Swappable straps
Stainless steel case
Water and dust resistance

Fossil Q Explorist Gen 3 has a combination of blue and silver metals. Fossil continues the trend of substantial steel watches with industrial charm, chunky and has a 46mm stainless steel case.

Fossil Q Explorist Generation 3 smartwatch has several versions but they continue to share the same display, same button layout, and casing design.

But, on the same side, they offer you with the different colors and finish of the metal and the band material.

You would love to know that even if you don’t like any of the watch bands, you can easily swap it out for any other 22mm band.

Fossil, more regularly, goes with fashionably restrained and attractive styling.

The fossil Q Explorist design is further enhanced by the look of the three buttons on the side.

Pro 3—Display

Fully round display
454*454 resolution

Fossil continues the modern trend for wear OS. The Fossil has a completely round display in the front, no flat tyre black bar across the bottom.

You get a full round watch face experience.

The fossil has a sharp screen and is vibrant. Indoors, it’s bright enough at round halfway brightness to deliver the full, colourful, detailed and saturated effect. But on the other hand, in the bright daylight, it’s not quite as great.

Pro 4—Wear OS By Google

Wear OS

Fossil Q Explorist Gen 3 smartwatch has a running wear OS which is an Android Operating System. Wear OS watches typically have identical software, so there is little to no difference in the product you buy, whatever the manufacturer.

It is a software platform designed to bring everything you know and love about Android phones to smart watches. Wear OS devices can be paired with not only Android phones, but also iOS devices.

Pro 5—Compatible With Android and iOS

Android and iphone support

Fossil Q Explorist Gen 3 can be paired with the iPhone as well as android devices.

When paired with an iPhone, you won’t get the same functionality as when paired with the Android device. Due to the apple’s restrictions, third party watchmakers and platforms do not get a search for things like reply messages etc.

Pro 6—Notifications

Notifies you with vibration on your wrist

Once connected with the app, it will automatically update your watch with notifications that your smartwatch can access and sync your contact and calendar.

Lastly, allow your smartwatch to display notifications sent from your phone. If you are using an Android phone, you can respond to text messages.

When paired with Android, the Fossil Q comes alive a little more. You can reply to messages, etc. by using your voice, or using short text templates.

It can be a bit hit and miss and isn’t as accurate as just using your phone but is perfectly fine for a quick two or three word response. Fossil Q Explorist Gen 3 smartwatch handles apps pretty well.

Pro 7—Water Resistance

Dust and waterproof

The smartwatch is completely waterproof and dustproof. Fossil Q Explorist is among the top fashionable smartwatches. There is a lot to like about Fossil Q Explorist Gen 3. It is attractive, well-made, waterproof and available in many choices of finishes and band styles.

It is water resistant up to 30M. Your smartphone passes a 10,000 stroke swim test and can be worn while swimming in shallow water.

Pro 8—Battery Performance

Great battery backup

Fossil Q Explorist Gen 3 provides you with the battery of 320mAh. If it is fully charged, then it will work a full long day. Even during light usage, you would be able to use the Fossil Q for two days.

It also means you are not forced to take the watch off every evening to charge it overnight. You can use it the next day without any inconvenience.

Although Fossil Q Explorist Gen 3 smartwatch has wonderful features, it still has some drawbacks as follows:

Con 1—Speaker Performance

The Q Explorist Gen 3 has a speaker for calls. Fossil has made the wise choice to include both the speaker and microphone into its latest watches. So as long as you are connected to your phone via Bluetooth, you can both answer the incoming calls as well as initiate calls from your watch.

But the quality of the speaker is not so good. You face sound issues while talking. If you want to listen to music through your smartwatch, then this would not be a good option. It’s better to listen to music on your phone rather than on this smartwatch. Because the speaker quality is not good.

Con 2—No Sim Slot

Fossil Q Explorist Gen 3 smartphone does not have any sim slot. You can connect your smartwatch to your phone via wifi or bluetooth.

Only by connecting it, you can use your phone functions and apps in your smartwatch. Once you are done with the setting of connecting your smartwatch with your phone, you are ready to go.

Con 3—GPS Tracking

Fossil Q Explorist Gen 3 does not have a GPS tracking system. It is worth noting that without a GPS tracking system, it will lack many functions.

As Fossil claims this watch can track steps, distance and calories burned, it can only make an estimated guess at the last using only the data gained from counting your steps. Without GPS and without a heart-rate monitoring feature, you can’t get truly accurate results. Still, it’s hardly a watch you’d want to use when out running, especially not with the steel or leather straps.

Con 4—Connectivity Issue

Fossil Q Explorist Gen 3 smartwatch has the connectivity issue with the iOS devices. This is due to Apple’s restrictions, third-party watch-makers and platforms don’t get access to things like replying to messages. So, with an iPhone, you can view your notifications and dismiss them, that’s about it.

Pair with Android, and the Fossil Q comes alive a little more. You can reply to messages within supported apps by using your voice, using short text templates or scribbling on the screen. It can be a bit hit-and-miss and isn’t as accurate as just using your phone, but is perfectly fine for a quick two or three word response.

Con 5—WiFi Connection

It faces an issue when it is connected with the WiFi. It can be slowed at several times when using a data Wi-Fi connection.

The watch handles up pretty well except when loading data via phone or a Wi-Fi connection, it will take more time. General interaction with the user interface and apps stored on the phone are much better because less loading is required.

The Snapdragon 2100 processor inside is in need of an update.

Con 6—Charging Issue

Fossil Q Explorist Gen 3 smartwatch comes with the battery of 320mAh. When it is charged once, it can work full day.

Even during light usage, it can also work for two days.

But it’s charging time is frustratingly long. It comes with the wireless charging disc. Using the wireless charging adaptor that comes with it, takes hours to charge it to 100%.

Now suppose, if the battery is around 9%, the battery took a whole hour just to add an additional 30%. That means, you are looking at charging times over 4 hours to go from nothing to full. And this would be more frustrating.

Here I am discussing some questions from which you would have a better idea about the Fossil Explorist Gen 3 smartwatch pros and cons.

Overall will give 4 star out of 5.

There is no HRM feature in Fossil Q Explorist Gen 3 smartwatch. Fitness isn't just about the amount of workout you do, it is also about the intensity of that exercise. Wrist-only heart rate monitors can be more convenient. But Fossil Q Explorist Gen 3 smartwatch does not provide this feature.
What's interesting from a design point of view is the contrast. Not only between the blue and silver coloring, but also between brushed and polished metal. They also provide smartwatch in different colors so that it can be worn by both men and women. As an example, the bezel around the screen is brushed, but each of the indents in the scalloped finish is shiny. Similarly, parts of the blue steel have a mirrored finish, while other elements are brushed for a more matte look.
The Fossil Explorist Gen 3 is sharp and vibrant. Indoors, it's bright enough. In the bright daylight, it's not quite as great but it's not impossible to see. You will still be able to tell the time and read notifications in the summer season. Although, some help might be necessary in particularly bright conditions. The other issue is a bluish tint to the screen that is apparent when looking at it from an angle. Although, it is not a major problem, still most of the time looking at a watch you tend to be looking at it head-on.
Yes, we can say the Fossil Q Explorist Gen 3 smartwatch is a touchscreen. The interface is controlled predominantly by using the touch screen, but also the buttons on the side or even by voice command.
